'Pool of Light' is a name given to orbs of rock crystal, or quartz, as they capture and refract light in beautiful ways. They were popular in the early 1900's to the 1930's. A traditional pool of light would be a solid orb, but this particular pool of light is also a locket, and a token of love - perhaps a lock of hair, a dried flower or photo, could be kept within and magnified by the crystal, giving it almost magical qualities.
