Paste is a special type of cut glass which emulates a variety of gemstones, and was developed in France in the 18th century. In different periods paste has been more popular than actual gems. In the Victorian era, a lady would have had a Paste jewellery set in her collection. The popularity continued and soared through to the Edwardian and Art Deco eras.
